Our
history
Foundation
Rapo B.V., the Roosendaal-based strawberry plant company, was founded in 1975. Since then, Rapo has successfully established sales opportunities across the entire European market. Resulting in a wide reaching European network that focus on local representation.
Takeover
In 2005, current owners Werner and Marielle Hack – both long-time Rapo employees – took over the company. They have continued to focus on the international market as well as establishing a strong position in the Dutch market.
Together with three other leading Dutch growers, Rapo began a partnership with Wageningen University in 2006, under the name Fresh Forward. This plant breeding company focuses on the development of new varieties. These varieties undergo extensive trials in terms of growing conditions, fertilisation and propagation methods.
In 2017, Rapo started to focus on the propagation of asparagus plants. The sandy soils in the Roosendaal area have an airy and humus-rich structure, ideal for asparagus seeds to develop optimally.
In 2021, Rapo acquired Vestjens, an asparagus plant company. With more than 30 years of experience in asparagus cultivation, Vestjens is an established name in the industry.
In 2024, Rapo invested in a greenhouse facility, to enable the propagation of strawberry cuttings and tray plants for substrate growers.
